Fanfiction is Underestimated

Hey guys! Cami here!

Before I begin, I owe you all an apology, I took an unforeseen sabbatical that was much longer than anticipated. Now that most of my engagements are over, I can once again resume my laid-back lifestyle and start writing again.

Today I’m going to talk about the importance of writing, I know some of you may be thinking how boring! But in reality it’s not. While this may not be my juiciest article, I do want to talk about this because it has been on my mind for the past few weeks.

I will be the first to admit that Tumblr is probably the best thing that has been invented after the internet. As a person who spends as much time working out as Steve Rogers spends being mean to people (for those non-Marvel fans, he’s (Captain America) literally the nicest human being on the planet), so naturally, Tumblr called my name and I gladly let it consume my life.

On Tumblr are SUPER TALENTED writers who write something called fanfiction. Its very hard to be a hardcore fan of something and not read the fanfiction. I LOVE reading fanfiction, it’s creative, and sometimes brings you a sense of satisfaction that the book, movie, or comic, can’t. There is fanfiction for pretty much everything. Marvel fics, Boy/Girl Meets World, 5 Seconds of Summer, Twilight, everything. It can be about the reader and their favorite character or member of a band *cough cough Luke HemHem cough cough* or help defend a character (Draco is misunderstood, he’s not evil I promise).

My point is fanfiction is an amazing way for people of all ages (mainly teens) to write and come together as a community of people sharing similar interests. After you take into consideration that it is an alteration to whatever fandom you belong in, you realize that the people who wrote it spent their time and effort to craft beautifully written piece of literature and when I realized this I had an epiphany,

Teenagers, who are portrayed as these internet obsessed teens who do nothing all day are WRITING, making up stories and sharing it with the world. That is amazing! How incredible is that?! Yet some people seem to think that this is a waste of time.

I very much disagree with that. Writing is so important, it is definitely one of the few things that most people cannot avoid after leaving school, that and reading. It is everywhere, you really can’t avoid it… like math.

This is basically what I wanted to share with you all. If you write fanfiction, if you read it, if you write tiny drabbles or poems or even a sentence describing your perfect day, keep doing it. Don’t stop! Because writing is so important and it really helps! I’ve had a journal for the past four years since I started high school, no one has ever read what I wrote but I felt so much better after writing. Having things bottled up is not healthy and sometimes you need to write it all down.
Keep writing, don’t stop doing what you’re doing (shamelessly quotes a 5SOS song).

Love life and remember stay geeky!

P.S. I promise to go back to my normal writing schedule as of today! Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday!! The Youtube channel is still in the works and the book reviews will probably be on the youtube channel. I think I am going to make a 7 part series comparing the Harry Potter books to the movies - prepare yourselves for a rant on that one ;P
